Research Center for Conservation of Buildings & Fabrics (RCCBF)

RCCBF was officially established in 2001 in order to develop and reinforce research, scientific and cultural resources as well as provide grounds for a better understanding of architecture and city-planning in Iran. At the earliest stage, this Research Center consisted of three research groups: Historical Buildings, Historical Fabrics and Architectural Decorations. Later in 2004, the Group of Garden and Landscape was annexed to RCCBF. In 2009, the independent Group of Troglodytic Architecture was founded and annexed to RCCBF.

Aims

·       Research in evolution of the Iranian architecture and city-planning

·       Research on sciences and basic technologies related to traditional architecture and city-planning in Iran

·       Research on scientific methods in conservation and revitalization of historical buildings and fabrics

·       Studies on principles and concepts of Iranian city, Iranian architecture, Iranian garden and the like

·       Research in typology of gardens, landscapes and their components

·       Working on written frameworks for conservation of historical gardens and landscapes

·       Research in particulars of troglodytic architecture

·       Compilation of frameworks and remedies for conservation and revitalization of the troglodytic architecture

 

Duties

·       Compilation of Atlas of Historical Cities, Villages and Gardens

·       Compilation of History of the Iranian Architecture

·       Registration of the Iranian agricultural heritage in UNESCO World Heritage List in order to conserve them

·       Preparation of (a) pattern(s) of cities and villages situated in deserts

·       Preparation of (a) pattern(s) for conservation of troglodytic architecture

·       Preparation of (a) pattern(s) for restoration of architectural decorations

·       Documentation and creating databanks

·       Establishment of a base for agricultural heritage

·       Establishment of thematic bases in historical sites

·       Gathering experiences relating to conservation of troglodytic architecture

·       Exchange of experiences with international masters and experts

·       Organization of national and worldwide conferences and seminars

·       Publication of Athar Journal

·       A research on architectural nature and function of the Sasanian Chartaghi (Case-study: Bazeh Hur)

·       A Look at Sasanian wall-paintings

·       Application of lLaser in conservation and restoration of architectural decorations

·       Compilation of a databank on historical gardens (1st phase)

·       Spatial re-identification of Dolat-khaneh and Safavid Gardens of Qazvin (1st phase)

·       Methodology of identification of values of historical designed open-door spaces including garden, square and street
