The Research Institute of Cultural Heritage & Tourism (RICHT)

By virtue of the law, The Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization (ICHO) was established in 1985 as an organization affiliated with the then Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. As a matter of fact, a number of following smaller bodies were merged together to establish one united organization which would take all duties and functions of those bodies under one umbrella:



1. Iran Center for Archeology (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

2. General Office for Traditional Arts (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

3. The Center for Anthropological Museum (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

4. Bureau for Historical Properties (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

5. Museum of Ancient Iran (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

6. The Office for Protection of Cultural Heritage in other towns (under the auspices of Ministry of Islamic Guidance);

7. The General Office for Museums (under the auspices of Ministry of Islamic Guidance);

8. The General Office for Historical Monuments (under the auspices of Ministry of Islamic Guidance);

9. The General Office for Palaces (under the auspices of Ministry of Islamic Guidance);

10. National Organization of Protection of Cultural Heritage (under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Higher Education);

11.  The General Office for Historical Houses (Golestan Palace) (under the auspices of Ministry of Economics and Finance);

ICHO was responsible for all matters regarding cultural heritage of Iran including as identification, documentation, researches, excavations, protection, conservation and restoration of all instances of the Iranian cultural heritage.

Some Year later, ICHO was merged with two other significant organizations: The National Organization of Handicrafts as well as the Organization of Tourism. This vital organization is called The Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO).
